The ongoing Voices of Dover oral history project, organized by Dover400, continues this week with an informative and entertaining interview with Jack Newick, owner of the iconic Newick's Lobster House in Dover. As part of the City of Dover's 400th anniversary celebration in 2023, the 400th Committee has been working to record video interviews with longtime Dover residents to preserve local history. The latest installment features Newick reminiscing about his family's multi-generational ties to the Dover area and how he built Newick's from a small seafood shack in the 1950s to a popular local restaurant seating over 200 today. He shares colorful anecdotes about lobstering on the Piscataqua River, rebuilding in record time after a devastating fire, and all the local kids who worked their way through college at Newick's.
